Marcus Doucette, (aka Marcus Garvey) has been a presence on the Milwaukee music scene since the turn of the century. At the time, fresh-faced and idealistic, English degree in hand, he turned to music as a means to escape the boredom of poverty. For the next seven years, he escaped the boredom if not the poverty by working as a club DJ and playing fine vinyl and rare grooves at some of Milwaukee's most interesting gatherings, events and get-downs.
Parlaying that experience as a club/party DJ onto the radio dial, he held a volunteer air shift at Milwaukee’s 91.7 WMSE-FM for the past two years. Many in the area will already be familiar with his inimitably poetic style and resonant presence as the host for that station’s popular and aptly titled “The Fantastic Planet.” The show was known for its variety and uninhibited approach to music, mixing genres and bending crazy arcs through eras with the DJ's intuition and critic's taste that are his calling cards.
At 88Nine RadioMilwaukee, his evolution continues, joining with others to create something new and excitingly refreshing for his home town.
