World Cafe revisits a 2002 studio session with Rusted Root asSense of Place: Pittsburgh continues. The energetic, percussion-heavy band has become synonymous with the sound of the city. Formed in 1990, Rusted Root is a sextet featuring many instruments and styles; the group is known for blending acoustic rock with world music. Its percussion style is heavily influenced by the music of Africa, Latin America and Native America, while its lyrical content often touches on Christianity, Judaism and Islam.

On Sat., Dec. 14, The Granville Business Improvement District (BID No. 48) in Milwaukee is hosting “Visit Santa in Granville.”

The event will kick off with a Santa Parade beginning at 8:45 a.m. at the Menards located at 8110 W. Brown Deer Rd. and follow through the ring road to Highland Plaza, 8600 W. Brown Deer Rd. Santa, who will be near the Half Price Books at 8514 W. Brown Deer Rd. will arrive in a Crawford Landscaping bucket truck decorated for the holidays and be accompanied by his elves to greet children and parents until 3 p.m., when he needs to return to the North Pole.

Wisconsin will proved $10.6 million to help build a new Family Justice Center in Milwaukee that will consolidate domestic violence services and programs under one roof. The new center at 6th and Walnut, will include a 56-bed domestic violence shelter along with mental health services, a legal clinic and an education and conference center.

Damon Albarn's African odyssey

Whether it's the Gorillaz or his Blur reunion, Damon Albarn stays busy. In his "off" time, he's been making a trek to Mali for a while now. It began in 2002 with the excellent release Mali Music, and continues this year with the fruits of his atest discoveries on the newly released Africa Express Presents: Maison des Jeunes. The trip that bore these fruits was a bit different as he invited a few notable friends with him; Brian Eno,Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner, Holy Other, members of Django Django and Metronomy to name-check a few.
