On 5 O'Clock Shadow we had a unique cover of LCD Soundsystem's "Daft Punk Is Playing My House" by Manchester artist by the name of Magic Arm.

One of my absolute favorites XTC, as covered by The Format. They'd later go on to become Fun. I always enjoy it when a band covers an album track that means something to them, as opposed to going with the immediately recognizable.

Before 88Nine Radio Milwaukee, WYMS was a jazz station. That history lives on in our jazz collection in our studios in Walker's Point in the form of a record wall. To celebrate some of that history, we decided to ask some of the bands that stop by for a session to go through the collection and pick out some favorites.

In this first edition of "Why Did You Pick That," we ask The New Pornographers band members Kathryn Calder and John Collins to select a record from our jazz wall and tell a little story on why they picked that record.

Evan Paydon: Beyond Bass and Time.

Evan Paydon is a man on the low end of the spectrum. And while that may sound like an insult, I actually say it with the utmost respect and awe. You see, all life manifests itself from the deep. Our minds function using beta waves @ 13-30 Hz during our waking life. And the calmer one gets, the lower our brain waves go. Deep meditation induces theta waves @ 4-8 Hz. And deep, dreamless, sleep induces delta waves @ 1-3 Hz. Evan is most famously known as the bass player for The Delta Routine.
