Two major wildfires continue to consume thousands of acres and destroy dozens of homes in central Colorado. The Black Forest Fire is one of two major fires taking its toll on Colorado Springs. The other, The Royal Gorge Fire, is burning on the other side of Colorado Springs, threatening the iconic Royal Gorge Suspension Bridge. High temps, dry brush and gusty winds are keeping the fires from being contained.
25-year-old singer/songwriter Sam Brenner starts his grassroots summer tour at Bay View's Tonic Tavern on Wednesday, June 19th. This will be Brenner's third time playing Milwaukee. He will be promoting his upcoming EP, Here at Home and performing songs from his 2011 debut album, Where We Begin. Madison-local Mike Droho will open the show.
Our exploration of the sounds of Samba this week on the Seven O'Clock Sample takes us to an album created by Eddie Palmieri and Cal Tjader called Bamboleate. This collaboration was released on Tico records in 1967, and featured a cool version of the song "Samba Du Sueno".
Stephen King, John Mellencamp and T-Bone Burnett's collaboration on the musical Ghost Brothers of Darkland County began 13 years ago. Inspiration for the story came when Mellencamp bought a vacation cabin; he says he found out just after closing that the home was the site of the tragic death of two brothers and the girl they both loved.
