At a Red Baraat show, the combination of Punjabi Bhangra music, New Orleans-style jazz, go-go and even hip-hop is so seamless — and the vibe of the party is so exuberant — that barriers fall down. That unique sound is what Red Baraat's leader, Sunny Jain, had in mind when he formed the band in Brooklyn in 2008.

The Fatty Acids, from right here in the 414, have put out a new rocking, synth-heavy single entitled "Airsick" that's tinged with sorrow over a missing little sister. It's from their forthcoming LP Boléro due out in September. This little bit of material also comes hot upon the heels of their recently announced release party on September 6 at The Pabst Theater with Sat. Nite Duets and Faux Fir.

88nine is taking you on a tour of Milwaukee's free, live outdoor concerts this summer.

This week, we visit "Wednesdays at the Shell" in Washington Park, near 40th and Vliet streets.

Every week concertgoers camp out in front of the Emil Blatz Band Shell with picnic baskets, beverages and chairs for an evening of music.

Jeff Baudry of the Milwaukee County Parks System said neighbors like Washington Park Partners make this free, eight-week series possible.

Neighbors connect on local 'Time Exchange'

It’s a new kind of currency.

Or is it an old kind?  Maybe a bit of both.

The Milwaukee Area Time Exchange allows people to connect online and trade time for services.  It is part of a movement called “time banking” where neighbors not only use their talent to help each other, but also get acquainted and build relationships.

Founder Debbie Davis got it started in Milwaukee back in 2009, and she says the site goes beyond volunteerism.

“Charity is fine, but when we do charity are we assuming that the recipient has nothing to give back?” she said.
