Non-profit paints boarded up homes

You may have noticed some decorative paint on boarded up homes around the city.

It's a nationwide effort called the Artistic Board-Up, organized by the not-for-profit Neighborhood Foundation.  

Volunteers paint a gray basecoat over the City installed boards that cover the windows of foreclosed properties.  The boards are also retrofitted to cover the whole window, and trim is installed to make it harder for people to pry them off and enter illegally.

The purpose of this event is to help raise awareness for acute and chronic pain and painful conditions. All proceeds from this event will benefit the American Chronic Pain Foundation. Over 50 million americans suffer from pain each year. It is our goal to spread the word of hope for a better quality of life...noone should live with pain.

Milwaukee County wading pools at Humboldt Park and Smith Park, as well as the splash pad at Gordon Park will reopen this week and remain open through Labor Day to help residents with the rising temperatures. More info on pools found online.
