I knew this was coming. I knew it because yesterday I scored the new Mr. Bongo compilation Brazilian Beats 7 and that would, could only mean a day-long trip to Brazil for some of the funky flavors I knew I'd find on the compilation. And while it wasn't all about the compilation, its inspiration certainly was. Here's a run-down, in order, of what I played today on Sound Travels...


Hometown pride shines at The Milwaukee Show

The final curtain closed on the Milwaukee Film Festival last Thursday. While festival featured films from around the world, organizers paid homage to the homeland with a category dedicated entirely to local talent.

Among the "Cream City Cinema" collection was the October 3 screening of The Milwaukee Show. It showcased a selection of shorts by Milwaukee filmmakers. With roughly 1,000 attendees, the sold out show was a pinnacle of the festival.

A growing, yet little-known fact: Karma Bar and Grill is home to Milwaukee's best underground comedy showcase. This comedian-run, independently produced comedy show that started with a couple of funny guys and a microphone has grown into a full-fledged professional comedy extravaganza. The Caste of Killers showcase only the freshest and brightest comedy acts. From new, local, up-and-coming comics to nationally touring headliners. The Milwaukee Stand-Up Comedy Showcase is the hidden jewel and the cornerstone of the Milwaukee comedy scene. This time round we've got:

While brainstorming Halloween Costumes this week, I thought how fun it would be to dress as Bango The Buck!

This made me think of the song "BINGO BANGO".  (Which I think would be the best theme song for said mascot.)

The government will reopen its doors today after Congress approved a bipartisan measure to end a 16-day partial shutdown. Early today, President Barack Obama singed the bill, which the house and Senate passed late Wednesday. The White House directed all agencies to reopen promptly as furloughed federal employees across the country are expected to return to work today.
