This past March, I attended SXSW in Austin, Texas. The conference and festival seems to get bigger every year. 1000s of artists and bands go to Austin to showcase their music. This year the representation of Milwaukee artists was very small compared to past years, but that does not mean the quality was small.
One of the bands, I wanted to check out was Chris Porterfield's new project Field Report. Porterfield's previous band was Conrad Plymouth and before that we was part of the now defunct Eau Claire band DearYardmon Edison. DearYarmond Edsion consisted of Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and members of the band Megafaun based out of North Carolina.
Recently, Field Report was featured on Rolling Stone's and Pitchfork's websites and several influential blogs like Brooklyn Vegan. I got a chance to see Field Report perform in one of the best and unique venues in Austin, Central Presbyterian Church. It was an amazing performance. The next day, I got a chance to talk with Porterfield about his project and how it came to be. We also talked about one of his biggest fans and supporter, who happens to be Adam Duritz, the frontman of The Counting Crows.
Here is video of some of Field Report's performance from Central Presbyterian Church. You can also download their tune Taking Alcatraz below.
