Lots of songs never make it to the radio that are getting lots of attention online. Live tracks, sanctioned and unsanctioned remixes, mash-ups, overlooked gems by unsigned artists. Every week on “Are You Feeling This,” we invite you to hear what the buzz is all about. You tell us what you think. Vote in the Are You Feeling This poll, and leave a comment.
We returned from the 25th anniversary of SXSW in warm Austin, Texas and brought back some music to share with you for this week's "Are You Feeling This".
First up is DeYarmond Edison, which is the group Justin Vernon was in before Bon Iver. It also features members of the band Megafaun. Ironically, both artists are now part of the super indie group Gayngs, which performed several showcases in Austin. While at SXSW, both Vernon and Megafaun reunited DeYarmond Edison at The Fader Fort in Austin.
Next up is Marques Toliver. Marques Toliver is a singer/songwriter who blends R&B and classical music. Funny story is that we saw him practicing for a show on the deck of the conference center in Austin, and we didn't know who he was at first, til I came across a blog post from our friends at the Couch Sessions. Turns out, he was discovered in New York by Kyp Malone of TV On The Radio. He later recorded music with Kyp, Grizzly Bear and other bands. He currently lives in London. He also performed on the legendary Jools Holland show in England.
Next is amazing singer by the name of Kendra Morris. I came across her at the Wax Poetics SXSW showcase. She sounds like a young Sharon Jones! She will be releasing and album on the Wax Poetics later this year.
The last artist is the Minneapolis based hip hop collective Doomtree. They performed several showcases including one with the forementioned Gayngs. They just released a Gayngs remix project called Affiliyated for a free download. We featured one of those tracks for this week's "Are You Feeling This". P.O.S and Dessa of Doomtree are part of Gayngs.
