Hey peoples, hope you caught today's edition of Sound Travels, another great set, another live edition. Today, it was Milwaukee's own Urbanites in the studio for Sound Travels giving the global direction I present every Friday at noon, a bit of local flavor for the day.
The set was potent, and a pure pleasure to see a reggae group fronted by not one but two very potent women. Both Holly Haebig and Urban Empress could carry a show on their own vocal strengths, together however, they are wonderful. Their vocals harmonize as one drop hits and the band is smooth, dyanmically working the emotion of the vocals to the surface over fat bass lines, tight drumming, churchical keywork and a killer skank... And it was at about this point that I realized how great reggae is being made in our midst here in Milwaukee-- thousands of miles from Jamaica... they were making it from love of the music. Sound y'all, does indeed travel!
And lucky to get them in the studio, this is a busy week for them as they will be prforming at Riverwest's Club Timbuktu this Saturday, starting the night's entertainment as an opener for regional reggae powerhouse Natty Nation. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a good recording due to techical issues. You can check them out live however, the show starts at 10pm. Natty Nation is celebrating the release of their new cd so it will be a good time.
PS...make it a real reggae evening and check out The Gig from 10pm-2am(1132 E. Wright St) which is also hosting reggae in the form of DJ's of Chalice In The Palace.
