Last week, I attended the finals for the Miltown Beatdown at Stonefly here in Milwaukee. For those who don't know what a Miltown Beatdown is, it is a competition between hip hop producers. They bring their best beats and compete against one another. The winner of each round was determined by judges. Maseo of De La Soul was a guest judge. It was an amazing event. I have to say of all the shows I have been to since I moved to Milwaukee, it was the most diverse crowd I have seen. There were Asians, Latinos, Whites, Blacks, Mixed, Women and Men. An no violence (which the media and stereotypes would like you to believe happens at a hip hop show).
After that observation, I came to a realization that hip hop unites people of all backgrounds than any other music in the world. You can find hip hop in Sweden to South Africa to Japan to Brazil. No other style of music has had that much influence.
Check out the interview with DJ Madhatter ,the founder of the Miltown Beatdown, talk more on the battle, the winner, and the state of hip hop. Congratulations to Major on Da Beatz for winning the Miltown Beatdown. Check out some pictures of the event from Damon Joy and John Knappe.
