The Milwaukee Film Festival is in full gear and I saw my first film last night.  I saw the film Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child, which was a documentary examining the life and creative mind of Jean-Michel Basquiat. It was quite moving.  The next film I am planning to see is Soundtrack For A Revolution, which debuts tonight (9/28) at The Oriental Theatre at 7:15pm.  I have known about this film for about 9 months and it is one of the films I was definitely looking to see at this year's festival.

SOUNDTRACK FOR A REVOLUTION tells the story of the American civil rights movement through its powerful music - the freedom songs protesters sang on picket lines, in mass meetings, in paddy wagons, and in jail cells as they fought for justice and equality.

The film features renditions of civil rights songs by artists such as The Roots, Joss Stone, , John Legend, Blind Boys of Alabama, Richie Havens, and more. The film was shortlisted by the Oscars, and has won numerous awards.
