Mixing it Up

Even though the actual physical cassette tape is pretty much dead, the art of making a mixtape is not. Two new websites aim at keeping the art of making mixtapes alive.

muxtape

The first site is called Muxtape. This site makes it as easy as pie to make a mixtape online. On this site you upload your own music (you are limited to 12 songs, and only one mix). Then you can share your mix via weblink with anyone. This site might have problems with the DCMA.

The next site is called Mixwit. You create and share your mix a little differently than Muxtape. Here you create an account and you can have unlimited mixes and songs. However, instead of uploading your own music, you use a form to search the web for the music. Once you find and test your song that you found you drag it to the playlist. Once you are done, you will be able to share a widget that looks like an actuall tape (you can even add your own photo). You can place this tape pretty much anywhere from your MySpace page to facebook, to your blog or website. Even the tape reels move! Below is a mixtape I created. I would love to see what y'all do. Post a link to your mix in the comments and I will create a page on our website for the mixes.
