There are only two days left for the Milwaukee Film Festival. I have three picks for you today.  The first two films definitely cater to my Architecture background.  They examine two cities with very different perspectives - Detroit & New Orleans.  Both cities have a colorful history, and a very colorful present.  The thrid is about it is never to old to live out your dream.

Detropia
at The Oriental @ 4:30PM and Thursday at The Oriental @ 9:30PM

Detroit has been the poster child for the decline of the American city.  Jokes like: "At least we aren't Detroit" are  now common place.  The documentary Detropia digs deeper into Detroit's narrative, and finds more than just ruin and decay. Anyone in love with their city, needs to see this film, because what happened to Detroit can happen anywhere.

DETROPIA sculpts a dreamlike collage of a grand city teetering on the brink of dissolution. These soulful pragmatists and stalwart philosophers strive to make ends meet and make sense of it all, refusing to abandon hope or resistance. Their grit and pluck embody the spirit of the Motor City as it struggles to survive postindustrial America and begins to envision a radically different future.

Tchoupitoulas at The Oriental @ 4:45PM

The next film, Tchoupitoulas, takes a different approach at looking at the American city.  The film follows three young kids exploring their city of New Orleans. It is a very unique and honest look at a city's nightlife.  Both films go beyond the their stereotypes.

Grandma Lo-fi: The Basement Tapes of Sigrídur Níelsdóttir at Fox Bay @ 7:45PM and Thursday at The Oriental @ 5:30PM

From the land of Bjork, this documentary tells the story of Sigridur Nielsdottir, who at the young age of 70, decided to release 59 album in the period of 7 years.  She definitely makes those indie buzz bands look lazy.
