As you may know, we are in middle of our "Meet The Need" initiative. We are covering 50 Milwaukee, non-profit organizations in 50 days. Whether is awareness, financial support, or volunteers, Organizations like the one's we cover, need all the help they can get.
As of yesterday, a new social network aims to assist non-profits in spreading awareness, raising funds and getting volunteers. The name of this new social network is called Jumo. The social network wasn't started by just any tech guy wanting to do something good, but Chris Hughes, a co-founder of Facebook and the man behind the social media campaign of Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign.
Jumo is a social network connecting individuals and organizations who want to change the world. Leveraging connection technologies, Jumo enables people to find, follow and support those working toward solutions on the ground in their community and in regions across the globe.
Think of Jumo as Facebook for non-profits and the people who follow them. You signed up for the network via your Facebook login. Then once you logged in to the service, you will be ask to choose your favorite issues like Arts & Culture, Education, Poverty, Environment & Animals, Human Rights, and Peace & Governance. After you select your issues, Jumo will provide non-profits that matches your preferences. You can then choose to 'follow' the organizations that you like. On each organization page, you will see a news feed (similar to Facebook), related links, and a donate button. There is also place to leave comments. Any non-profit 501(c)(3) can sign up for Jumo profile with the exception of political campaigns.
