“Be Heard”: 4th Street Forum | MPS: Money, Control, And Kids Too

This week at the 4th Street Forum: MPS is at a crossroads. A recent report backed by Mayor Barrett and Governor Doyle warns that while the budget is currently sound, a massive budget shortfall is disturbingly close if action is not taken now. Although this might feel counterintuitive, it may have been more convenient if the report had revealed large-scale corruption and waste -- those types of problems have straightforward solutions. However, it looks like the problem will need to be solved not with an axe, but with a scalpel. So who is going to take control and what should be their priorities?

They couldn't have found better panelists to take on this topic. This week, the 4th Street Forum welcomed Mayor Tom Barrett, Milwaukee Public School Board President, Michael Bonds, Anneliese Dickman, Research Director at the Public Policy Forumand Dennis Oulahan, President of the Milwaukee Teachers Education Association.
