A couple of months ago, the city of Milwaukee was announced as one of the 20 finalists in the Bloomberg Mayors Challenge. Milwaukee has opportunity to win up to $5 million for their HOME GR/OWN idea.
In targeted HOME GR/OWN Zones, engaged, empowered, and enabled residents repurpose foreclosed houses and vacant lots into abundant healthy food assets, yielding healthier, safer, revitalized neighborhoods, and greater economic opportunities.
In addition to a chance of winning a few million dollars to implement Milwaukee's idea, Bloomberg Philanthropies and The Huffington Post are hosting a fan favorite contest. The winning city will receive a $50K Services grant from IBM to support implementation as well as featured coverage and promotion from The Huffington Post, including a monthly front page column for its mayor for a year and an interview with Arianna Huffington on Huff Post Live (HuffPo’s video news platform).
The voting runs from February 20 through March 6, and the winner for this contest will be announced around the same time of the five finalist for the Bloomberg Mayors Challenge. View Milwaukee's page here, and go vote HERE.
