There seems a day to celebrate anything like Pancake Day.  Well, I just found out that today is International Beer Day (August 5, 2011).  What is International Beer Day?

International Beer Day is a Worldwide Celebration of Beer on August 5th, taking place in pubs, clubs, bars, breweries, beer gardens and back yards all over the world.

The purpose of International Beer Day is threefold:
1) To gather with friends and enjoy the deliciousness that is beer.
2) To celebrate the dedicated men and women who brew and serve our beer.
3) To bring the world together under the united banner of beer, by celebrating the beers of all nations and cultures together on this one remarkable day.

This seems kind of redunant in the brew city, but hey why not make a special day for that frothy beverage that makes baseball games more enjoyable, the ability to dance like an idiot without worring about what someone thinks, and makes those bad days at work not so bad.

Here is the origin of this fantasic day:

International Beer Day was conceived by Jesse Avshalomov, and was founded in 2007 by Avshalomov, Evan Hamilton, Aaron Araki, and Richard Hernandez as a celebration of beer and the people who provide it.

As Avshalomov tells it:
"A few years back a group of friends and I decided that there needed to be a day in celebration of all things beer, a day in thanks to the people who produce and provide our favorite beverage. So we invented International Beer Day, convinced our local bar to celebrate on August 5th, made a little website for it, gave thanks to the beer industry, and had a good-ol' time.

Then we started receiving emails from people who had found the IBD website and held their own celebrations in England and South Africa. We knew then that we needed to take our celebration to the world.

Ever since we've been working each year to bring the celebration to more and more people, and this year we've hit over 100 celebrations! We're working super hard to make this year's celebration Epic, we've even had a classy logo and new website designed, so we hope you have yourself an awesome International Beer Day."

However, there are no bars in Milwaukee officially celebrating this worthwhile holiday. There is a bar called Silver Eagle Saloon in Watertown, WI that is celebrating International Beer Day (whatever that means).  The site even shares with you ways to celebrate the day. For example you can try a new beer from different country or give the gift of beer (email me if you need my address).

Even the Social Media site Mashable is celebrating International Beer Day in their own way by sharing 8 different websites for beer lovers.

So from me to you, Happy International Beer Day!  Also let us know what is your favorite international beer in the comments section below.
