The T5C this week actually comes from Michael Osowski, who in an email earlier this week, suggested we build the countdown around the garter toss; yes, the strangest, most pagan part of most wedding celebrations. Seeing as how Kallao and I have never been married (having only contemplated that loss of singularity), we figured we're kinda experts in this kind of musical fantasy. Her's the list we came up with (with y'all's assistance of course)...
Red Hot Chili Peppers "Give It Away"
- Not a bad song, if you don't play it all the time. Good to play it today and the T5C was the only way, and it could be the only song here that sums up the entire marry-ing experience, including the bridal toss and garter throw...
The Roots "The Seed 2.0"
- If you're getting married, maybe the garter toss was the start of the whole shenannigans.
Clarence Carter "Looking For A Fox"
- Aren't we all...?
Big Pun "Still Not A Player feat. Joe"
- A rap reprise to the single life in perfect party prose, verse after verse, Big Pun puts the fun in this one...
Queen "Another One Bites The Dust"
- Queen's biggest hit, born out of their eighth album, is a song whose titular relevance is as a lamentation of the singles still standing after the event. "Till death do us part..." is the matrimonial version of ashes to ashes and dust to dust, so maybe biting the dust is about marriage after all and catching the garter is a verdict of fate, if not hope... Good luck if you get one this wedding season.
