Sound Travels this weekend almost didn't happen. It was almost a guest mix presented to mask what almost happened. Fortunately, almost is all it was, as a near hard drive meltdown threatened nearly two years of time and music and my entire way of life. Amazing how digital media, when not backed up, can become a memory in a moment leaving you in the lurch... The lesson? Back up your files, not just once but twice!
In the euphoric discovery of my music's continued existence, I wanted to make a mixtape for Sunday that was really about what I wanted to hear. A mix of cumbia, moombahton, reggaeton and Latin vibes is what you all got. I played recent Global Union performers Bomba Estereo, new music from Argentina's Pernett and a 2011 favorite, Sistema Solar in a mix of other musics that sounded like this...
