Lots of songs never make it to the radio that are getting lots of attention online. Live tracks, sanctioned and unsanctioned remixes, mash-ups, overlooked gems by unsigned artists. Every week on “Are You Feeling This,” we invite you to hear what the buzz is all about. You tell us what you think. Vote in the Are You Feeling This poll, and leave a comment.
First up is singer/songwriter Jono McCleery from London. He is signed to one of my favorite labels, Ninja Tune Records. He released an album back in 2008, which as self-produced and funded by the fans. He has performed with artists such as Gil Scott Heron, Jose Gonzalez, Little Dragon and others. The cool Pinboard blog posted a video of his latest single "Tomorrow," which is one of the featured songs below.
Next is Milwaukee based singer/songwriter and producer Jon Frost. We have a track called "Waaay Back." You can find it on a new EP called "Can You Hear The Colors," which you can download for free. It definitely minds be of an unrelased Andre 3000 track.
We head back to the UK for the next two artists and songs. First, we played a cover of Jamie Woon's version of "Wayfaring Stranger" by red-headed sensation Ed Sheeran. This cat kind of reminds me of little bit of Jack Johnson mixed with a G. Love, and a dash Biz Markee. I first mentioned him in my post on the best "Skinny Love" cover videos a week ago. You can download his version of "Wayfaring Stranger" directly from his website, which is part of a free EP entitled "The One Take EP." Check out his latest single and video for his latest single, "You Need Me, I Don't Need You."
Finally, we have a Drum & Bass tune from DJ turned singer Yasmin. The name of the tune is "Light Up (The World) and was produced by renowned Drum & Bass producer Shy FX. Her full name is Yasmin Shahmir and is the daughter of and Iranian father and English Mother. As a DJ, she toured N.E.R.D. all over the world.
Take a listen to all of the tracks and let me know which one you are feeling the most, by voting. Just click the 'up arrow' next to the song for your choice.
