Area businesses and residents will have a chance to recycle their old computers and other electronic devices Saturday, at a free collection drive in the Pettit National Ice Center at State Fair Park. The "Stuff the Truck for Independence" drive runs from 9am to 2pm and benefits Independence First, a non-profit agency that serves people with disabilities.
This year marks the 13th annual "Mobile Phone Throwing World Championships" in Finland, homeland of Nokia. Last week, dozens of people from around the world gathered to compete and watch history being made as Eighteen-year-old Ere Karjalainen from Finland set a new world record, launching his phone 332.8 feet.
First Lady Michelle Obama visits Milwaukee today to speak to supporters at Bradley Tech at 2pm. The event is open to the public. The first lady will also stop in Oak Creek to meet with members of the Sikh temple.
Mexican Fiesta turns 39 this weekend, celebrating Mexican food, culture and heritage with mariachis, dancing, Mexican food and more at the Summerfest grounds Friday through Sunday. This celebration began in 1973 as a south-side street festival to celebrate Mexican culture and heritage. In 1977 it moved to the lakefront, where it has grown and expanded along with the area's Mexican and Latino community.
