According to JS Online, starting this week, Medicare will start fining hospitals that have too many patients returning with complications within 30 days of being discharged. The penalties are a part of President Obama's health care law to improve the quality of hospital care while also trying to save taxpayers money.

Ten Milwaukee elementary schools will get extra funding to support more coaching for teachers and collaborative planning time over the next four years thanks to a $20.4 million grant from the GE Foundation intended to increase student achievement in Milwaukee Public Schools.

Food For Families, Milwaukee's oldest and largest food drive held by the Hunger Task Force started this week. This year's goal: to collect more than 500,000 pounds of food. Information on how you can help by running your own food drive can be found here.

All Department of Motor Vehicles offices in Wisconsin will be closed on Monday October 8th, allowing a day for DMV customer service employees to participate in training.
