South Carolina continued the 2012 Republican Presidential Campaign Race with its primary this past Saturday. Making a comeback and taking the lead was Newt Gingrich, in second place was Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum finished third and Ron Paul trailed behind in fourth. The Gingrich victory means that three different candidates have won the first three nominating contests. Gingrich said quote, "It's not that I am a good debater. It's that I articulate the deepest-felt values of the American people."
State Election Officials formally requested for more time for the recall petition review. Officials asked for at least 60 days instead of 31, hoping that it will give enough time to review the six sets of recall petitions that were submitted less than two weeks ago. Between the signatures filed to recall Governor Walker, Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, and four Republican State Senators, the Government Accountability Board has a total of $1.9 million signatures to go through. The hearing is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Ryan Braun had his arbitration hearing on Friday and the Major League Baseball's basic agreement calls for a decision to be made within 25 days, which leaves Braun and the Brewers waiting for the verdict. Braun tested positive for a banned substance last October and if his appeal isn't successful, Braun will face a 50-game suspension starting in the 2012 season without pay. But Braun is hoping to become the first major leaguer to have a positive test overturned since the current drug policy went into effect after the 03 season.
Thousands of Scott walker supporters gathered together for a rally at Hart Park in Wauwatosa on Saturday. During the Republican rally, groups chanted, "stand with Governor Scott Walker". Public officials that backed Walker during the rally included former Governor Tommy Thompson, State Senator Glenn Brothman, Representative Jeff Stone, and U.S. Senate Candidate Mark Neumann. There was a counter protest, which drew around 100 people.
Milwaukee is set to host the 9th Annual Green Energy Summit in March at the Frontier Airlines Center. Last year the event attracted more than 3,100 participants, including over 200 speakers. The importance of the conference is to educate the investment, business and workforce communities to historic changes and opportunities when it comes to clean energy, sustainable practices and food and water-related enterprise. This year the theme is: "The New Economic Wave, Clean, Green and Blue."
After a long battle with leukemia, the extremely talented American singer, Etta James, passed away at the age of 73 in California over the weekend. James is best known for her ballad "At Last", which was recorded back in 1961. James won over 30 awards, and was both a Grammy winner and part of the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame.
