President Obama recently sent his jobs act plan to Congress and if approved, it could have a large impact on Wisconsin. Wisconsin could be eligible for up to $368 million to upgrade its K through 12 schools and community colleges.  This also means the money for Wisconsin’s schools could generate up to 4,800 jobs for workers who would conduct the repairs and renovations of new classrooms and labs.

The Milwaukee Art Museum is now home to the most expensive art acquisition in its history. It’s portrait of a young woman by John Singleton Copley was unveiled over the weekend as part of the museum’s 10th anniversary of the Santiago Calatrava expansion. The work of the young girl was acquired for $3.5 million, and if you’re an art fanatic you know that Copley’s artwork is rare to find.

Speaking of the art museum, there's not so good news for the Brise Soleil. The museum's iconic wings won't be able to remain in the upright position for more than a few minutes at a time for another four to six weeks. The news came from the repair shop and a few more parts needed to be ordered.

If you stepped outside the office or were driving throughout the city yesterday, then you probably noticed the haze. It was actually smoke coming all the way from the Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota. There's a huge wildfire there and it's been burning since mid-August, and now the smoke has reached Milwaukee due to the strong northwest winds. Nothing too unusual happened as far as air quality, but some of you made have had a reaction if you're sensitive to particular matters like the smoke.

A new report shows that poverty spiked to just over 15 % last year, which means it’s the third consecutive annual increase when it comes to poverty rate. So for numbers, in 2010 there were $46.2 million people in poverty, and in 09 there were roughly $43 million.

Wisconsin academic and medical institutions are teaming up to take on our state’s health care challenges.  That includes the Medical College of Wisconsin, UW-Milwaukee and Marquette University to pair up with Froedtert Health and Children’s Hospital and Health System. The collaboration will draw expertise on economics and business to help improve the efficiency of clinics and find ways to slow the rise in health care costs.
