What makes Milwaukee move? Dance! UWM's Peck School of The Arts features an outstanding Dance Department, headed by Chair and Associate Professor Simone Ferro. I met with Simone, as well as Dance Production Manager Iain Court, to witness a tech rehearsal of "Winterdances", a performance that is also a love-letter to dancer and faculty-member Ed Burgess, who passed away this summer. Dance students were involved in the production, including the opportunity to learn how a performance is built from the ground up: from lighting and sound to taping the floor and sweeping.

I stayed for part of the rehearsal, which included music by Led Zeppelin, no less, and was floored (uh, no pun intended) by what I witnessed.
