Canadian husband and wife duo Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland of Whitehorse are coming back to Schubas on Saturday February 16th. They return in ambitious fashion promoting their August 2012 release The Fate of the World Depends on this Kiss (LP). Whitehorse’s live shows are built on mesmerizing guitar work and smoldering vocal chemistry, but also bring much more to the stage with complex layers of percussion, keyboard and telephone receiver amplification, tangled like an embrace with the help of looping pedals.
Rebecca Rego an independent Chicago singer/songwriter who opened for Whitehorse on their last run through the Midwest. Rego herself has been touring since last fall after her 2012 release Seconds (LP) at Lincoln Hall. She will continue on through the spring with plans to start recording a new record sometime this summer. Rego’s songwriting and performance have been compared to Neil Young and Emmylou Harris. Her traditional acoustic guitar and harmonica combo move around soft vocal patterns, while the lyrics themselves capture the listener in states of wonder.
