In 2006, the world lost one of the best hip-hop producers of all time: J Dilla. The Detroit native's production discography spans from Common to Janet Jackson, work that's been hugely influential to musicians across genres and across the world. Dilla was not only a prolific, award-winning producer; he was also an emerging rap artist on a level all his own.
On February 9, 2013 Milwaukee will pay tribute to the life and music of J Dilla with a celebration event at Stonefly Brewery. Some of our city's most talented artists will perform a selection of Dilla classics, and a handful of the area's best DJs will help remind the audience what made J Dilla the icon he is today. All proceeds from the event will be donated to The J Dilla Foundation, which helps fund inner-city music programs and provides scholarships to students attending schools with progressive music curricula.
