Shakespeare, meet Twitter.
The 2013-2014 season at Pius XI High School Performing Arts Center will kick off with #LaTempestad. The piece is an original take on Shakespeare’s The Tempest and incorporates modern themes of cyber bullying, social media and texting.
“We’re excited to see how these two plays can bring both our audiences and our young actors to a deeper appreciation of the universal human themes in both of these pieces,” said drama faculty member Kevin Schwartz in a news release.
Students worked with directors to create their take on themes and characters from the classic version. #LaTempestad is written in English and Spanish and will run alongside The Tempest through November.
The show will be held in the new Pius XI High School performing arts center. Click to hear the original story about the new space.
