The Fatty Acids, Surgeons in Heat, PHOX, & Canopies
12/15 - Doors at 9 p.m.
$8, $5 w/ an ugly holiday sweater
Get your ugly sweaters out for a holiday party that will blow the roof off Mad Planet.
We'll have four bands that hardly need an introduction. The Fatty Acids bring their lauded quirk pop, which earned their most recent LP, 'Leftover Monsterface,' a nomination for last year's Wisconsin album of the year (They lost to something called Bon Iver). Surgeons in Heat hit us with their AM Gold. What did David Dye have to say about SIH on NPR's legendary World Cafe? "Listen - I think you'll be impressed." No one disobeys David Dye. Then there's PHOX, who are currently the talk of Madison and beyond, where the beautiful vocals of Monica Martin and the raw harmonies and instrumentation have hit people like the sweetest pile of bricks ever. Canopies gets us dancing with their electro-pop to start out the night, playing songs from the s/t EP that AV Club Milwaukee included in their top five MKE albums for 2011.
If the music's not enough, we've got a contest for you. Not only will you get in for $5 rather than $8 if you wear an ugly holiday sweater, but you can win a $20 bar tab if you win the audience-decided vote for Ugliest Sweater in a Good Way.
Do not miss this party. The action starts at 9 p.m. on Saturday, December 15th.
