BETTY SALAMUN and collaborating GUEST ARTISTS create a luminescent concert of dances, visual art, shadow puppets and music exploring light itself.
LIGHTshadow is a journey from the inner point of inspiration to the endpoint of the sun’s influence. REFLECTION glows from the center of the mandala – a universal meditation image – as five dancers mirror and reflect dynamic changing patterns. Anja Seiger’s original Balinese-style shadow puppets play against dancers rummaging in the human psyche of warriors and fools, lovers and magicians in DEMONS, DRAGONS AND SHADOWS ON THE WALL. In SUNNY-SIDE-UP, Betty Salamun explores the properties of, myths about and everyday encounters with sun-light set to the effervescent piano music of internationally acclaimed composer Marjorie Rusche. Visual artist Sherrod Milewski’s hand painted costumes for SOLAR WINDS depict the Aurora Borealis as dancers transform the torrent of electronic winds and resulting a dance into dance propelled by the sounds, rhythms and tones of composer Wylie Hufti’s original score.
