Zipcar, a car-sharing program where cars can be rented for a fee by the hour or the day, is coming to Milwaukee's East Side. The annual membership cost is $60 and both a Ford Focus and a Toyota Prius are currently available on a first come, first serve basis. The cars will be parked near North and Farwell and is the first Zipcar offering in the city outside of those at Marquette University and the UW-Milwaukee campus. Info found on our Facebook page.
Nestle USA announced a voluntary recall of two brands of frozen pizza yesterday, California Pizza Kitchen and DiGiorno frozen pizzas, because they may contain fragments of clear plastic. The pizzas were sold nationally.
The next phase in a multi million-dollar cleanup of industrial pollutants from the Milwaukee River began this week. Over the next two weeks, crews will sample river sediments at 50 locations along the river in Lincoln and Estabrook parks. The pollutants are the result of factories that operated in the Lincoln Creek watershed on the city's northwest side and the cleanup has been made possible from funding from the Great Lakes Legacy Act.
As reported by the Milwaukee Business Journal, a Massachusetts-based company that provides housing in the U.S. for international students is seeking to buy the Hilton:Milwaukee River in Glendale to establish a Midwest location. Under the proposal, the 162-room Hilton on Port Washington Road would be converted into housing for international students attending local high schools and colleges.
