The company that runs the Milwaukee County Transit System is suing the county to stop secret contract negotiations with another firm. Milwaukee Transport Services Inc is seeking an order requiring the county to give it information on which to appeal to the decision to switch management of the local bus system t the Texas-based MV Transportation. MTS says the county must disclose the records under the state open records law.
Thousands of acres of a Southern California forest are going up in flames for the second time in less than three weeks. Together, the two blazes have scorched a large hole out of the wooded mountains near Palm Springs. A steady wind is blowing the wildfire toward the east while more than 1,400 firefighters struggle to contain it.
Eight WI counties struck by severe storms, flooding and mudslides in late June were declared disaster areas Thursday by President Barack Obama. Ashland, Bayfield, Crawford, Grant, Iowa, Richland, St. Croix and Vernon Counties will receive federal funding for emergency work and repair of facilities damaged by the storms.
