A city matching grant program focused on making city streets and businesses safer through police-monitored surveillance cameras will be announced today. Mayor Tom Barrett and Milwaukee police chief Edward Flynn will join three Milwaukee alderman this morning at 10am during a press conference at Wild Flour Bakery on 28th and Lincoln.
Oscar Mayer says it has created a bacon-scented app for iPhones, developed by the Madison based company's Institute for the Advancement of Bacon. An external device that plugs into the headphone jack will emit a small puff reminiscent of bacon and the app itself produces the sound of bacon sizzling in a pan. Oscar Mayer says the aroma-producing device won't be sold in stores and that quantities are limited. They're giving away 4,700 devices beginning Thursday. Russia's parliament gave its defiant support Friday to Crimean lawmakers who want to see their region split from Ukraine and join Russia, saying no sanctions imposed by the U.S. or Europe will change its mind. Crimea, an autonomous region in southern Ukraine with an ethnic Russian majority and strong cultural ties to Russia, has become the epicenter of a battle for influence between Moscow, Kiev and the West.
The third phase of The North End development got a boost on Tuesday, as the Common Council approved spending $2 million in tax incremental financing to be used for 400 feet of new RiverWalk, utilities, dockwall repair and the extension of N. Edison St. Construction is expected to begin the summer of 2014.
