The Helen Bader Foundation has awarded over $1.1 million to various Milwaukee grass-roots organizations that serve low-income children and teens. The largest award, a two-year grant for $340,000, went to COA Youth and Family Centers for youth arts education. Nearly 20% of families in the city of Milwaukee live below the poverty line.
Four Wisconsin craft breweries are being featured on a nationally syndicated craft beer TV show. Beer Geeks TV, launched in 2011, has already aired episodes featuring Titletown Brewing Co. in Green Bay and O'so Brewing Co. in Plover. Upcoming episodes feature Central Waters Brewing Co in Amherst and Stone Cellar Brewpub in Appleton. The show airs in Milwukee on Sundays at 2:30pm on WCGV Channel 24.
The Milwaukee-based Philippine Cultural and Civic Center Foundation launched a fundraising effort this weekend after Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines. Milwaukee has roughly 7-10,000 people of Filipino decent. New reports say the death toll from the typhoon could rise to 10,000. Info on how you can help is found here.
