The Milwaukee Public Library's East Library on North Avenue will be relocated next week to it's temporary home as the original library building is demolished and rebuilt. The library will move into two storefronts at 2340 N Murray Ave until the new space is completed in the fall of 2014.
General Motors is recalling more than 193,000 SUVs from the 2006 and 2007 model years because a circuit board in the driver's door could short and cause a fire. Vehicles involved are Chevy Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, Saab 9-7x and the Isuzu Ascender. GM says the defect is caused when water gets into the drivers side door, corroding the circuit board causing power door and window switches to stop working or overheating.
Hundreds of WI National Guard members will be furloughed for 11 days as part of the federal sequestration. The 700 Department of Defense technicians that must take days off by September 30th range from pilots and mechanics to folks who work in finance and human resources.
One of the nation's oldest and largest celebrations of Juneteenth Day runs from 10am to 6pm Wednesday in Milwaukee, with a mix of vendors, resource centers and eateries along N King Drive from Center to Burleigh streets. The family-friendly festival began in Milwaukee in 1971 and observes the day in 1865 when word reached slaves in Texas that the Civil War had ended, marking the final emancipation.
