The U.S. Coast Guard reports a natural gas platform exploded in the Gulf of Mexico yesterday. The rig, leased by Houston-based Walter Oil & Gas Corp, was burning 60 miles southwest of Grand Isle Louisiana, leaking natural gas, but no oil. 44 workers were evacuated after the blowout occurred, no injuries reported.

With a vote of 14-1, the Milwaukee Common Council approved a new ordinance on Tuesday that renders many city employees ineligible for a pay boost if they move outside the city of Milwaukee. This would not affect elected officials or employees represented by Milwaukee Police and Firefighter unions, but 4,106 general city workers that haven't received raises since 2010.

Kohl's Department Stores has announced the continuation of its partnerships with both the American Cancer Society and the Southeast WI Affiliate of Susan G. Komen with a $1.7 million donation. The money comes from the Menomonee Falls-based company's philanthropic division, Kohl's cares.

The National Soldiers Home Historic District has released a new walking tour app for Android and iPhones. This free app, which may be the first of its kind in the state, is narrated by State Historic Preservation Officer Jim Draeger, makes 25 stops of the sprawling 90-acre grounds, including the Governor's Building- the oldest surviving structure on the grounds.
