Sunday was the last day of the summer swimming season at the majority of Milwaukee County Parks. The pools normally close this time of year as lifeguards head back to school. Pools at Greenfield, Hoyt and Lincoln parks will remain open through Labor Day.

According to the MBJ, St Marcus Lutheran School hopes to buy and renovate the former Malcolm X Academy school building into its second Milwaukee campus, which will provide space for 900 students. St Marcus, with its first campus at 2214 N Palmer St, serves predominantly low-income students is known for its high graduation rates.

Encouraged by ridership that has doubled over the past decade and standing-room-only conditions on some trains, the WI Department of Transportation has plans to add three Amtrak express trains to the Hiawatha route, boosting the number of daily trips between Milwaukee and Chicago from 7 to 10.

A celebration of Mexican culture, food, music and soccer takes place at Mexican Fiesta at Maier Festival Park this weekend. Features include "La Catrina", an exhibit explaining the significance and rituals of the Day of the Day in an art gallery, mariachi musica and masked Lucha Libre Mexican wrestlers. Info on blog.
