The Common Council has given approval to Milwaukee Public Schools to sell the former Malcolm X Academy to a developer who has plans to transform the site into housing, retail space and a new middle school. MPS Superintendent Gregory Thornton said they are very pleased with the outcome.

Milwaukee's Bryant's Cocktail Lounge has been named "Best Bar in the Country" by Esquire Magazine. Five other Milwaukee bars made Esquire's list, including Old German Beer Hall, Nomad World Pub, Milwaukee Ale House, Lakefront Brewery and Koz's Mini Bowl.

The IRS is looking into the charity run by former Green Bay Packers player LeRoy Butler, probing why Butler has been raising money in Wisconsin over the last decade but hasn't filed with the IRS since 2002. A message posted on the LeRoy Butler Foundation website less than a week ago announced the charity will shut down after a final fund-raising cruise in February.

As reported by the MBJ: The Milwaukee Housing Trust Fund will award over $400,000 to five Milwaukee projects working to provide affordable houses and apartments to the cities residents. One recipient, CommonBond Communities, will construct 26 apartments for female veterans and their families at Fond du Lac Avenue and Melvina Street.  Info on the other 5 projects found on a.MKE blog at radiomilwaukee.org.
