New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a plan to store 3 million gallons of fuel in an emergency reserve to prevent outages like those during Superstorm Sandy last year. The Strategic Gasoline Reserve is a $10 million dollar program that includes tanks set up on Long Island for storing the fuel, and will be the first state-based fuel reserve in the nation.
Hundreds gathered Sunday morning in St. Francis for the ground breaking of the city's new civic center. The $9.7 million building will house police, fire, city offices, the health department and historical society all under one roof. The city expects to move into the new building by September 1st, 2014.
