As reported by the Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service, La Luz del Mundo Family Services has opened a violence prevention center at 15th and Greenfield in an effort to address domestic and street violence that affects families in their community. The center will offer support groups and classes intended to foster more peaceful households and neighborhoods.

Friday is a mandatory furlough day for City of Milwaukee employees and with the long holiday weekend, some services won't be available until Tuesday. There will be no garbage pick up on Friday and Monday, no parking meter enforcement on Monday, or night parking enforcement on Monday. The Internal Revenue Service ruled yesterday that same-sex couples who were married in states that recognize their unions will be treated as married couples for federal tax purposes. This status applies even if the couples live in states that don't recognize same-sex marriage.
