Three teachers and founders of the MPS ALBA School were honored Friday as "Teachers of the Year" by 'People' Magazine. ALBA is a bilingual MPS charter school on Milwaukee's south side aimed at developing positive self-identity in bilingual students through the fine arts and a rigorous curriculum. The winners receive $4,000 for their school and $1,000 for themselves.

The Hunger Task Force is offering their annual holiday cards to help feed those in need in Milwaukee. There are three designs to choose from and all images were donated by local artists. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of these holiday cards will be used to help fight hunger this holiday. Starbucks is the latest big company to announce an aggressive push to hare veterans returning to the civilian work force. The Seattle-based coffee chain announced their commitment to hire 10,000 veterans and military spouses over the next five years. They also plan to open five stores on or near military bases that will share their profits with the local communities.

Illinois is poised to become the 15th state to allow same-sex unions after lawmakers gave the bill final approval on Tuesday. The law will go onto effect June 1st of 2014.
