The Milwaukee library system plans to install an Express Vending Library near the Westlawn housing project. The machine, similar to a Redbox found at grocery stores, will be anchored near the corner of 64th and W Silver Spring drive, and will provide 400 library materials 24 hours a day through self-service technology. The new library will be installed as soon as next month.
The MPS Board of Directors called an emergency meeting Monday night to take a vote on the former Malcolm X School on North 1st Street. The board voted in favor of selling the vacant building to a holding company owned by the City of Milwaukee. There are tentative plans to turn it into a community center. The sale requires the approval of the Milwaukee Common Council.
Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon and Waukesha County Technical College have signed agreements that will allow some WCTC graduates to received credit in related bachelor's degree programs at Concordia. Grads will receive full transfer of all credits when enrolling in Concordia's bachelor of arts in business management or bachelor of arts in human resource management degree programs.
The Senate's Democratic and Republican leaders closed in on a deal Monday night to end the two-week partial government shutdown. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid suggested an agreement could be announced soon.
