Quad/Graphics co-founder Betty Quadracci died Monday at the age of 75. Betty, a trained Montessori teacher and lifelong supporter of the arts, was the president of Milwaukee Magazine, started the Waukesha Montessori School in 1964 and helped launch the Waukesha Head Start program in 1968.

Congress voted to renew a ban on plastic guns that can skirt airport detectors, as Republicans blocked efforts to tighten restrictions. The Senate approved the measure hours before it would have expired at midnight.

Biologists in Brazil have discovered a new species of porcupine. The new species, who's only know habitat is in the Brazilin state of Ceara, is medium-sized, prehensile-tailed with a body densely covered with tricolour quills. Pictures and more info found on the amke blog.

In music news, Summerfest has announced their first headliner for their 2014 season. Lady Gaga will play the Marcus Amphitheater on June 26th. It will be her first Milwaukee appearance since her sold out show at the Bradley Center in 2010.
