Phoenix Gov. Jan Brewer on Wednesday vetoed a Republican bill that set off a national debate over gay rights, religion and discrimination and subjected Arizona to criticism from major corporations and political leaders from both parties. The bill backed by Republicans was designed to give added protection from lawsuits to people who assert their religious beliefs in refusing service to gay people. 

For the first time in two decades, the Food and Drug Administration will propose major changes to nutrition labels on food packages, putting calorie counts in large type and adjusting portion sizes to reflect how much Americans actually eat. It would be the first significant redrawing of food labels since the early 1990's.

As reported by the Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service, The African American Chamber of Commerce and the WI Economic Development Corporation are offering new loans that provide capital for entrepreneurs. The WEDC hopes the new loan program will help foster black entrepreneurship and will begin accepting applications in the near future to make capital accessible to underserved communities. A Northern California couple out walking their dog on their property stumbled across $10 million in rare gold coins buried in the shadow of an old tree. Nearly all of he 1,427 coins, dating from 1847 to 1894 are in mint condition. Although the face value of the pieces only adds up to $28,000, some of them are so rare that experts say they could fetch nearly $1 million apiece.
