As we get ready for Saturday's UNLOOPED VS MARVIN GAYE show at Alverno College,, we are going through the music of Marvin Gaye all this week on the Seven O'Clock Sample.

WHAT'S GOING ON was released in 1971 on Tamla Records. The album credited as being produced by Marvin himself, What's Going On is a unified concept album consisting of nine songs, most of which lead into the next. It has also been categorized as a song cycle; the album ends on a reprise of the album's opening theme. The album is told from the point of view of a Vietnam War veteran returning to the country he had been fighting for, and seeing nothing but injustice, suffering and hatred.

This song has been sampled by Shaggy and Grand Puba on the song "Why Must You Treat Me So Bad." Also used on the song The Prophet by Gramatik, The Formula by The D.O.C. and Welcome to the Ghetto by Spice 1.
