Tears for Fears is an English new wave band formed in 1981, made up of Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. The song “Mad World,” on their The Hurting album, was their third single release and first chart hit when it reached #3 on the UK Singles Chart in November of ’82. The song underwent a revival 20 years later when Americans Gary Jules and Michael Andrews put their flavor on it. It became the UK Christmas Single Number One Single in 2003, and it has been used on many American TV shows and even a video game commercial. You’ll find that version on the soundtrack to the movie, Donnie Darko.
