Scottish singer-songwriter, Gerry Rafferty, was the originator of “Baker Street,” which was released as a single in February 1978. The songs succeeded very much so, hitting No. 9 in the Netherlands, No. 3 in the UK, No. 2 in the US and No. 1 in Canada and Australia; not to mention that in October 2010, Broadcast Music, Inc. recognized it for surpassing 5 million worldwide performances. At least six other groups have put together cover versions of the song—one of which, of course, includes the American rock band, Foo Fighters.
